Historical Cost Convention

Financial statements are generally made under the historical cost convention which requires that all the items will be recorded at the purchase cost and will not be adjusted to their market value at each reporting date.

However, revaluation is allowed in certain cases where allowed by the financial reporting standards e.g. revaluation of assets as allowed under IAS-16.
